Better Asian Shrimp

Shrimp Certification Boost for Vietnam Exports A number of Vietnamese shrimp companies have recently received the Global Aquaculture Alliance's (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices certification, which is given to companies that meet specific hygiene and source requirements for greater sustainability. The new certifications have boosted the country's exports and reputation in the European Union and the United States. It has encouraged the Vietnamese Fisheries Ministry, which said it hopes to see double-digit growth in the business by 2010; this would bring annual output and export to more than 2.1 million tons and $2.5 billion respectively.
Aroma Thyme Bistro Comment:

The way shrimp are raised in Asia has ben an issue for so long. Recently I have heard of more sustainable methods of seafood production in Asia. It started with a soft shell crab that was boasting it clean production methods. It seems to be coming out of Vietnam specifically, it might have spread to other Asain producers.

At Aroma Thyme we serve a really clean South American Shrimp from Ecqudor that has no antibiotics, hormones and chemical free packing.

Any advance in sustainablity of the shrimp industry is gladly welcomed.
